THE GREATEST GIFT YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONES
Friday, June 1, 2018
We spend our lives trying to make life better for our family, to help them through trauma, upset and difficulty. There will come a time when we are no longer around to give them our support. However, we can still find ways to ease the burden.
We will all die eventually, although hopefully not for a long time to come, and when we do our families will be plunged into a mix of emotions, grief and admin.
As people assemble to say goodbye, you want them to be remembering you with love, not worrying about the cost of your funeral, or seething or bickering amongst themselves about the finer details.
However very few people talk about how they want to be remembered, let alone make practical and financial plans. With the average cost of a funeral standing at over £3,600, it can cause considerable stress and anxiety to those left behind.
However, there are some things that you can do
Talk to your family about your death and what you would like to happen. This doesn’t have to be a morbid or sad, it can be light-hearted or casual. Tell them what you would like, whether you want to be buried or cremated, flowers or donations, hymns, songs, motorcycle cavalcade, whatever works for you.
Make a will. Everybody should have a will, regardless of who they think will inherit their assets. Not only will it make things simpler, it can also save a lot of family arguments if possessions and things of sentimental value are listed specifically. No one wants to be falling out over who gets the mahogany dining table, or even worse be embroiled in legal disputes.
Plan your funeral yourself. You can save your family a lot of administrative and financial burden by taking out on of our pre-paid funeral plans. Not only do they take the heartache out of planning, they also shield them from rising or unexpected costs. We have three options for both cremation and burial, and you can also discuss your specific wishes with us, which we will keep with your plan. We can also spread the cost.
Don’t leave it until it’s too late. Your family will thank you for taking the time and trouble to put your affairs in order.
We have open days at four of our funeral homes over the next few weeks, and we’d be happy to talk through all the options with you.
